Since this site was built in the early eighties, Sandycroft and Pentre have been plagued with either noise from the refrigerated lorries or smells deriving from the factory process.

Speak to most of the residents in Sandycroft and they all say  "This factory should not have been built so near to residential property," so why was it ? that is a question we would all like to know the answer to, although at the time steelmaking was coming to a end at Shotton Steelworks

The Community Council, assisted by Flintshire County Council's Environmental Department have, over the years, met the Management from the various owners of the factory, to discuss the problems but with little success, Flintshire County Council seemed very reluctant to force through any issues.

Since February 2005 the Environmental Agency has taken over responsibility for all issues regarding the noise and smells and at last the future looks promising.  They have picked up on the problems there and made them conditions of their operating permit which means the factory have got to deal with them.  You can see from the audit report (August 2005) the issues in question and councillors are now using this as the agenda for the meetings there so that they can closely follow the progress.  Now we've got something to work to with the help of the Environment Agency we can keep a closer eye on the situation.

Councillors are very pleased with the support they are receiving from the Factory and the Environment Agency at the moment, finally we are all talking to each other which is a positive move in the right direction.

The council would welcome comments from the residents of Sandycroft & Pentre for inclusion in our new Comments Page (please state if you would like your name published) please email your comments to grampian-comments@queensferrcc.org.uk You can also use our Feedback Form at the top of the page
